Our Story
More about why we do what we do and why we are having success here.
Background
Migraine Insight was founded after Lynn had a conversation with a neurologist work colleague. He pointed out that none of the current migraine apps are effective for finding triggers. This is frustrating since the suicide rate for people living with chronic migraine is 9x higher than average.
Gathering good information and finding the cause of episodes for an individual – that’s central to helping people with headache disorders get better.
Why are we different?
We are proud to be the first health tracker to use AI to help people with headache disorders.
All other headache trackers ask ‘What are your triggers?’ and adds that into a report. We are the only app with a way to investigate and find triggers.
Everyone with migraines has different triggers. Clinical research confirms that finding triggers can reduce or eliminate episodes. Headache specialists spend a lot of time trying to help people find triggers – usually with paper tracking, which has a long history of not working well. And, since no other app helps people directly with this problem, we are the only tool to help the patient figure out the complex puzzle of what’s really causing episodes for them.
Migraine Insight uses AI to find patterns and help people finally find their real triggers. Our app users work better with their care team by accurately tracking down the behavior and environmental factors that cause their headaches.
We help people see the hard-to-identify patterns that they and their care team can’t find. The app also has all the bells and whistles of standard headache loggers. Our app has helped thousands of people get to more headache-free days.
A note on getting care – an important issue for our users.
For those who can afford care, getting it can take a lot of time. There are 47 million Americans with migraine disease. And, there are 564 board-certified headache specialists. The average wait to see a headache specialist in the US is 3 years.
On top of the issues with getting in for care, too many people are uninsured or underinsured. Forty-three percent of working-age adults were inadequately insured in 2022. A lot of people simply do not have the resources to get the attention and care needed to address the complex problem that a headache disorder presents. A quick visit to a primary care doc can help some. But, most people need to see a specialist.
To better understand this issue, PBS’s segment ‘15 percent of Americans have migraine disease. Why aren’t there better treatment options?‘ is a great starting point.
Our app helps people living with migraines who don’t have proper access to care by helping them gather the right information for eventual engagement when it’s available. For example, most patients visit the ER multiple times to try and alleviate attacks before they finally see a specialist and get the cause of their episodes sorted out. Better records help them better navigate getting care. We also hear from patients who don’t have access to care that the trigger pattern finder can be a significant help in reducing attacks.
We’re designed to help patients work better with their care team. We also get constant kudos and thanks from people who can’t access medical care. Finding triggers works; it’s typically the main focus of advanced headache care.
The App
In this full featured headache journal and AI trigger finder, patients start by tracking episodes, meds, triggers and treatments. After about 8 weeks, the suspected triggers are ranked and concerning patterns are highlighted. As the user tracks more over time, the system reveals more patterns and can help solve the problem of finalaly finding a person’t real episode triggers.
The toolkit’s set of features work together to help patients and doctors make the important insights that help people reduce or eliminate migraines. Patients have better appointments with clear, organized reports. The app helps people better manage medications.
The app has been very successful in helping people identify triggers so they can reduce – or, even eliminate – migraines. The reviews on iPhone and Android have several great user quotes.
